This month saw us bid farewell to the students who joined us as part of Volue’s internship program. Over the summer, interns from across Norway and Finland contributed their talent and knowledge across several of our offices.

All those who took part gained hands-on experience and practical skills in a professional setting, enabling them to bridge the gap between their academic learning and employment.

Our interns were given the opportunity to work on real projects that challenged their skills and ignited their creativity. They collaborated in small, dynamic groups, fostering an environment that was informal, fun, and rich in knowledge.

The experience provided invaluable exposure to the cutting-edge technologies driving the green transition and allowed them to learn from some of the industry’s leading specialists.

Here’s what some of our interns had to say about their experience:

Take Oskar Våle, who worked with the Core team for Insight. "The biggest highlight of my internship at Volue was working with so many talented and nice people. I felt like I was part of the team and that my work mattered," he said.

Iver Kvaale Skibsrud, who worked with the Short-Term Team, Insight, added: "Coming to Volue as an intern has not only provided me a great opportunity to learn about the power market and gain hands-on experience, but also given me the chance to experience a truly collaborative and supportive team."

Dorsa Kabiri, Team Energy, Consultancy, gave us an idea into the work the interns did over the summer, stating:  "I had the opportunity to intern with the energy team at Volue, focusing on automating data management within the optimisation system. Our work involved automating the addition of objects, time series visualisation, and anomaly detection. Despite being just a summer intern, I truly felt like a valued member of the Volue family, receiving support and inclusion whenever I needed it. It was an amazing experience to contribute to projects that aim to make a positive impact on the world."

Aron Lutz, Team Energy, Consultancy, gave this succinct response, which we feel perfectly sums up the experience of our interns: "I would describe my summer job in one sentence as quickly feeling part of the team, expanding my skill set and enjoying a super work environment," he said.

Fredrik Framhus, Team Infrastructure, had this to say: "We appreciated working on exciting and useful products together with engaging colleagues, and especially our mentor Jon Røstum! Eating lunch with the other summer interns was a daily highlight throughout the summer."

Matilde Lundborg, Team Power Grid, Consultancy, was grateful for the opportunity, stating: "I really enjoyed working at Volue this summer. I liked how we were trusted with a project given to us to solve on our own. I learned a lot, especially new programs, which is valuable knowledge to take with me. I was surrounded by a lot of great people and made a lot of new friends with the other summer interns here in Trondheim. Thank you for this opportunity!"

Marie Lerstad, Team Power Grid, Consultancy, had this to say: "It has been incredibly rewarding to be able to work on projects that were relevant to the department we have worked in. Everyone in the office has given us a warm welcome, and been really helpful in answering any question we have had."

Elsewhere, Malin Bergset, Team Power Grid Consultancy, found her experience to be, "both fun and challenging!" She added:” While working on identifying aviation obstacles from the Power Grid, I got to further develop GIS-skills I've obtained from NTNU - while also being exposed to completely unknown methods and programmes to complete our assignment. It's been especially valuable and motivating working in an office with highly competent coworkers to help us when encountering problems.”

And finally, Sigve Walnum, Team Power Grid Consultancy, said: "It has been nothing but a pleasure working for Volue in the power grid team. Obtaining new skills while working for the company, as well as putting to use some of the knowledge from my course has been extremely motivating for my last year of studies and is an experience that I’ll take with me into the future."
